COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This French conversational intermediate group course is designed for people with a fair knowledge of French who want to hone their speaking and reading skills while gaining a better understanding of some French cultural aspects. Our intermediate session will mix both conjugation/grammar reviews with conversations in French. This level is fantastic for students who want to reinforce their knowledge of French and gain confidence in their ability to speak French.

Recommended level:

Beginner Levels (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) or similar completed. You have already learned French prior to this course and are able to discuss familiar topics.

What will I learn?:

This class will focus on:

Reading and discussing articles about diverse topics.
Gaining confidence to interact with native French speakers in most situations that come up when traveling in French-speaking countries.
Being able to narrate an event, an experience, or a dream;
Describing a desire or goal, and outlining reasons or explanations behind a project or idea.
Review of French tenses ( past, future, conditional,…) by writing a short essay as homework before each class.

I've done levels 1-3 with Sophie and she is an awesome instructor! She guides us through class like it were some mental yoga, so that we learn and advance a lot, even in spite of a long work day. As a native speaker, she effortlessly imparts knowledge about the subtle (and not-so-subtle) nuances of words and usages/conjugations. I'd been trying to learn German on my own for years, and already my French is stronger than my German! I began lessons with the goal of eventually going to France with a working holiday visa. I took private lessons with Noëlie for one year, right up until my departure. To say it was a great experience would be an understatement. Before I started the course I was asked to specify what I wanted to achieve, which was to develop speaking skills/gain confidence with the language. I knew a very little bit of French already, but I was nowhere near the level I wanted to be. We began with core course material and as things proceeded it became more personally tailored; for example I would be asked to prepare a topic that I was interested in for discussion and then we would speak about it in the lesson, or we would work on vocabulary/grammar that was aligned with my needs. Towards the end we were spending significant portions of the lessons entirely in French. The prospect of learning a language was daunting for me at first (I have always struggled with nerves in general), but Noëlie was always patient and encouraging and I came out the course feeling empowered, like a door had been opened to a new world. As I write this I am seated at a table in Lyon, day 5 into my working holiday and the success of Noëlie's teaching is already clear. Can't recommend her enough. Thank you.

Excellent classes run by a sincere group of teachers!!I lived in Quebec for some years but I could never speak French fluently. I always wanted to learn and master the language. That is when I heard about Learn French. I registered for their Level 1+2 classes and found them really helpful. Our teacher Ms.Jennifer always encouraged us to ask questions in the class and created a learning atmosphere for us, where we always stayed curious and challenged. My teacher Coralie was excellent. She was prepared at every zoom call to help me with my individual needs and took great interest in improving my french. She gave me quite a few handy expressions which I will study and use in the near future. She printed out each zoom call so that I could go through it afterwards. She was extremely flexible and provided some great resources to help improve my French. I was a complete novice when I started French class with Coralie. After only a few weeks I feel like I know hundreds of vocabulary words and really have a strong grasp of French conjugation. I have recently completed a series of Beginner Level 1 + 2 private French lessons with Lola. She is a wonderful teacher!. Due to the pandemic, Lola and I use ZOOM for my weekly lesson. She is a very warm person who makes learning pleasant and safe. Lola clearly knows her subject very well and has a gift for simplifying things. The lessons are practical and Lola is very knowledgeable and clear. I highly recommend Lola as a French teacher. I make these observations after teaching for many years myself. I've been looking for a french school like this for so long. I've done little bits of french here and there, but always felt underwhelmed and like my teachers weren't really invested in my success. I had some informal experience in learning French so it was hard to decide where I should start with classes. After completing the online test and having a great phone conversation with Lea we decided that private lessons would be the best way to tailor the curriculum to my level and allow me to progress the quickest. I chose Learn French in Vancouver because it appeared much more welcoming than the other organisations in town and this was absolutely my experience. The lessons were engaging, challenging, supportive and left me excited to go and do my home work. Yasmina is a fantastic teacher - knowledgeable, attentive and patient. She listens to the needs of his students, and draws from her extensive teaching experience to develop a tailored, very effective style.During private lessons, we focus on my everyday speaking and listening skills through casual conversation. Occasionally, we shift to traditional grammar drills. This method is effective and fun for me - times slips by during our meetings. In her group classes, she follows a more structured, yet still very engaging teaching system. They provided me with valuable grammar practice, since it's the most challenging aspect of French for me (as I suspect it is for many others).I am really satisfied with our progress so far. Lea is a amazing teacher and is so supportive, helpful and flexible in learning french. She tailored my lessons specifically to what I wanted to learn. I highly recommend her!!!!!
