About half of Burnaby was born abroad. French is how your file stands out

When so many profiles around you look alike, French is the part that sets yours apart, and B.C. counts it too.

Express Entry

Up to 50 extra points

With NCLC 7 in all four French skills, your Express Entry score goes up by 50 points when your English is CLB 5 or higher, or by 25 when it is lower. IRCC also holds draws only for French speakers.

BC PNP

B.C. counts both languages

B.C.'s nominee program has no French stream, but its Skills Immigration score adds points when you pass both an English and a French test at CLB 4 or higher. French-speaking teachers in B.C. public schools also get priority.

SFU

French on Burnaby Mountain

Simon Fraser University's Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs is on its Burnaby campus, and the university runs a bilingual degree program taught mainly in French. Once your French is solid, there is a university next door that teaches in it.

The best institution to learn french in a most natural way. My tutor was Anne, she is the best. Very friendly, always there for us to help to improve a lot. I really had lot of fun in her class as well.

I had a wonderful experience learning French with Anne. She is an amazing teacher patient, encouraging, and very supportive throughout the course. I really enjoyed her teaching style and the way she made the classes engaging and easy to follow. I also really loved the course structure at Learn French in Vancouver. The lessons are well organized and provide a good balance of grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and practical French. I would definitely recommend Anne and Learn French in Vancouver to anyone who wants to learn French in a structured, supportive, and enjoyable environment!

Salut! I found French quite difficult, and I knew almost nothing about it. But our teacher are always patient with us and encourage us to learn little by little. Our teacher remind us that learning French is a process, and it takes time, practice, and patience. I have gone from knowing almost nothing to knowing something. I know that I still have a lot to learn, but I am motivated to continue and improve everyday. Merci beaucoup Anne, pour ta patience, ton soutien et tes encouragements. Je suis vraiment heureux d’ avoir appris le francais avec toi:-)

Learn French Vancouver is amazing! It was challenging but a worthwhile experience with our teacher, Anne. I really liked it because they offer online lessons that is so convenient for working moms like me. There are a lot of different activities involved such as reading, writing, speaking and listening that pushes us students more to apply right away what we have learned every lesson. Anne was always one text away and she’s ready to answer all my offline questions. It was such a bittersweet feeling on our last day of class because of the bond that we have created throughout the 6 months of French-learning journey. I am so proud to be part of this class. Bravo to us Beebek, Allan, Milad, and Rose! We made it till the end! Merci beaucoup, Anne!

Two live evenings a week, from home or in Gastown

Every group runs live with a native teacher, and the lessons are the same online and in the room. Here is how a week works.

Small groups, live on Zoom or in Gastown

You speak in every class and your teacher corrects you as you go. It feels like a conversation, not a lecture.

The same teachers in every format

All 22 of our teachers come from France or Québec and teach one curriculum, so an online evening in Burnaby covers what the Gastown room covers.

Missed an evening? Catch up the same week

Live classes are not recorded, but the self-study lessons in your program cover the same material, so you arrive ready for the next class.

Want a class in person? Gastown is about 20 minutes away

From Metrotown, Patterson, Royal Oak or Edmonds, the Expo Line runs straight to Waterfront Station: about 20 minutes from Metrotown. Our classroom is at 319 West Hastings Street, inside L'Atelier co-working space, about a 5-minute walk from the station.

From Brentwood or Lougheed, take the Millennium Line and change to the Expo Line at Commercial-Broadway. Come for your placement test, join an in-person group, or stay online: your teacher and your curriculum stay the same.
